The most important key to success is “Just Do It!” Take imperfect action and do something toward your goal. Done is better than perfect. You can make corrections later.

The 10 Basic Motives that Inspire All Human Action

Every thought you think and every act that you voluntarily engage in can be traced back to some definite motive or combination of motives. No one does anything without being

motivated to do it.

  1. The desire for self-preservation.
  2. The emotion of Love.
  3. The emotion of fear.
  4. The emotion of sex.
  5. The desire for life after death.
  6. The desire for freedom of body and mind.
  7. The emotion of anger.
  8. The emotion of hate.
  9. The desire for recognition and self-expression.
  10. The desire for material gain.
  • To find your basic motivation for doing a thing, ask yourself “Why do I want that?
  • “With each answer, ask yourself the question again “Why do I want that?”
  • Keep asking yourself that question 7 times, and you will get to the basic reason which will motivate you into action. To get results and to act immediately, you must do as Winston Churchill said, “Do it afraid.”
  • The bravest person in an unfamiliar environment will at first experience a conscious awareness that is a conscious or subconscious feeling of timidity or fear. When a person with a positive mental attitude finds that the fears are not beneficial to him, he will neutralize the undesirable emotion by substituting a positive one.
  • Instead of saying “I am afraid”, say “I am excited to do that.” Both emotions create a feeling of “butterflies” inside your stomach.
  • Negative feelings, thoughts, attitudes, and emotions are harmful to the individual. These negative emotions within you are not now necessary to solve the problems that faced primitive man.
  • Anger, hate, and fear are good when used by a soldier to fulfill his duty to protect others from the negative evils of other societies.
  • Nature alerts you to danger by the emotion of fear in a new environment or new experience. The bravest person in an unfamiliar environment will at first experience a conscious awareness that is a conscious or subconscious feeling of timidity or fear. Expect this feeling and reassure yourself that once you take that first step, it will disappear.
  • Take a deep breath, hold it in, and jump into action–Just like you did the first time you jumped off the diving board.
  • When a person with a positive mental attitude finds that the fears are not beneficial to him, he will neutralize the undesirable emotion by substituting a positive one.
  • What can you do about it? You can control your emotions within by a habitual positive response of your conscious mind. The more cultured and refined you are the easier you can control your emotions and feelings by changing your habits of response. You must choose to do so by reason and action.
  • When fears are unwarranted or harmful, they should be neutralized. How? Your emotions are not always immediately subject to reason, none the less, they are immediately subject to action.
  • You can use reason to determine the needlessness of the negative emotion, and this will motivate you to action.
  • You can substitute fear with a positive feeling. How do you do this? One effective means is through self-suggestion. In fact, self-command with a one-word symbol that incorporates what you want to be. If you are afraid and want to be courageous, give the self-command “Be courageous!” with rapidity several times Follow this with action.
  • If you want to be courageous, act courageously. How?

Use the self-starter “Do it now!”. And then get into action.

  • Establish the habit of motivating yourself with a positive mental attitude, then you can control your thoughts, direct your actions, and then ordain your future destiny. • Motivate yourself and others with the secret ingredient of hope. Hope is the expectation of achievement of what is desired and belief that it is obtainable. The game of football is like life. More people sit on the sidelines watching than get in the game.
