“For things to change, YOU have to change. For things to get better, YOU have to get better. For things to improve, YOU have to improve. When YOU grow, EVERYTHING in your life grows with you.” – Jim Rohn
- Personal growth and change happen when you adapt to change and have the wisdom and power to take advantages of opportunities which are created by change.
- You also must have a principle-centered approach to solve personal and professional problems.
- These principles include “fairness, integrity, honesty, and human dignity”, says Stephen Covey in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
- Usually, in solving problems, the “way” you see the problem is the problem.
- Therefore, you must start with yourself and evaluate “how” you are in the habit of thinking. Some people call this your “paradigm.”
- Could there be something you need to see in a deeper, more fundamental way within yourself that affects the way you see your time, your life, and your future? You need a new level of thinking.
Stephen Covey, in his book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, says,
- “Start with yourself from the inside out and evaluate your paradigm, your character, and your motives.” You must make and keep promises to yourself before you can make and keep promises to others. You must be the person you want to be and act like the person you want to be, first. Therefore, to grow, you must work on the one thing that you have control over -yourself.
- Any time you think that the problem is “out there” that thought is the problem. If you think that you are being acted upon, then you are allowing what is out there to control you.
- Instead, take a proactive approach, and change yourself from the inside to be different. That is the way to effect positive change out there.
- You take responsibility to change your face with a smile and to accept the problems genuinely and peacefully as you take action to do what you can do to change the circumstances instead of trying to “shape up” someone else.
- This is the first step in your own hands to the solution. In this way, you do not empower the problems to control you.”
Albert Einstein – “The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them.”
Henry David Thoreau – “I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestionable ability of man to elevate his life by conscious endeavor.”
Robert A. Russell – “Life is consciousness. Change your consciousness to change your life.”
Jim Rohn- “To solve any problem, here are three questions to ask yourself: What could I do? Who could I ask? What can I read?”
“Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.”
Joe Theisman, former quarterback for the Washington Redskins, Entrepreneur, Speaker, and NFL analyst,” Advice on How to Tackle Change in Your Life” –
“Keep a positive mental attitude and commit to a vision that guides you to the top.” He also says that you must adapt quickly to unexpected situations when you’re faced with a “blitz” instead of a “zone.”
Action Steps:
- To get out of your comfort zone and take risks without any guarantees, you must develop self-confidence and believe in your ability to positively change your life. Fear and doubt are the number one thing that can hold you back, but don’t let that ruin your life.
- Remember that FEAR is False Evidence Appearing Real. Most of what you fear never happens unless you constantly dwell on that fear and then it attracts negativity to you. This is the “Like attracts Like.
- The second major thing which holds you back are guilt and feelings of unworthiness. 4. And number three, is feelings of inferiority and worthiness. These are all universal confidence blockers, and they can be defused because they were learned habits.
On the reverse, self-confident people give off a vibe and everyone notices them when they enter a room and are attracted to them. This is also called “charisma.” The most successful leaders have this charisma. You can “fake it till you make it” by acting bold and “doing it afraid.”
There are only two fears which you were born with. Those are fear of loud noises and falling. You learned all the other fears, so therefore you can un-learn them and develop self-confidence. Really successful people are happy and are free from fear and doubt and feel they are worthy of success and all the good things in the world.
Fears are habits which are learned. Emotional habits or ways of responding emotionally are all learned. They are not fixed. They have no home in your subconscious. If they were fixed, you wouldn’t be able to get rid of them. Research has shown that you can get rid of 99.99% of them.
The Law of Cause and Effect says that for every effect that is going on in your life has a cause and there is an opposite reaction.
If you can be clear about an effect that you desire, you can trace it back and by finding someone else who has gotten that effect, and if you do the same things, they do you will get the same result.
A lot of people erroneously think that their situations in life are caused by factors outside themselves. However, that is false. You have been taught to look at what you can see, feel, and touch. The truth is that your thoughts and words create things. That is why it is said that “you have what you say”, whether positive or negative. Once you know this, you will watch your words and never say what you do not want to come to pass. Your thoughts are the only thing you control in life. Your thoughts determine everything that happens to you in life. They control your relationships, your jobs, your health and how long you live, your friends, your happiness, and level of self-confidence, how much money you earn.
You were not born with any beliefs. Any belief you have about yourself, your potential, the world, politics, religion was given to you by someone else, usually your parents. You were taught repeatedly. Self-limiting beliefs are the worst. This is a belief that you are limited in some way and unable to do what you need to do or should do.
The best belief that you can have is that you can do whatever you can think about and that you want to do. The common denominator of successful people is the belief that they are going to be a big success from their childhood and into their adult lives and that no matter what happens to them they are going to be a big success. They never lost sight of that. They believed that every setback was a lesson, and every pain was to teach them something that would be helpful to them later and they never stopped believing in themselves.
So, if you could buy one belief at the store, it would be the belief that you are destined to be a big success, that you have incredible potential and that you are surrounded by incredible opportunities and that you are going to be a huge success in life, and that everything in life that has happened up to now has been a part of your preparation. Never say, “I can’t do that” or “I’m not good at that.”
